What are locked or event files?

Posted by David - DriverCam

Locked files are special video clips your dashcam automatically protects so they can’t be erased or overwritten during normal loop recording. In everyday use, a dashcam continuously records and replaces the oldest footage once the memory card fills up — but when something important happens, locked files ensure that crucial moments stay safely stored.

These files are created automatically or manually depending on the situation. If the dashcam’s G-sensor detects a sudden jolt or collision, it instantly locks the current video segment. You can also press the dashcam’s emergency save button to manually lock footage you want to keep, such as a close call or important encounter. When the dashcam is in parking mode, any motion or impact detected while the car is parked will also trigger automatic locking.

Locked files are stored separately — usually in an “Event” or “Emergency” folder — so they’re easy to find later when you need to review or share them. By preserving key moments automatically, locked files protect valuable evidence of accidents, near misses, or vandalism, ensuring you never lose the footage that matters most.
