What are the different WIFI types in dashcams?
Posted by David - DriverCam
Many modern dashcams include built-in Wi-Fi, letting you connect your phone for live view, playback, and quick downloads. The Wi-Fi type affects how fast and stable that connection is.
2.4 GHz Wi-Fi offers the longest range and works through walls, but it’s slower and best for basic tasks or short clips.
5 GHz Wi-Fi is three to five times faster, ideal for downloading large Full HD or 4K files, though it works best when you’re close to the vehicle.
Wi-Fi 6 is the newest and fastest option, providing the most stable connection, reduced lag, and excellent performance when transferring big files or updating firmware.
In short: 2.4 GHz = long range, slower speeds.
5 GHz = fast transfers, short range.
Wi-Fi 6 = fastest and most reliable overall. If your dashcam and phone support 5 GHz or Wi-Fi 6, choose those for the best results.
