How is Bluetooth used in dashcams?

Posted by David - DriverCam

Many modern dashcams now include Bluetooth, making setup and daily use faster and more convenient. This technology lets the dashcam connect wirelessly to your smartphone or accessories without using Wi-Fi or cables, creating an instant, low-power link for quick communication and control.

Bluetooth makes pairing simple — your phone can connect to the dashcam automatically without entering passwords or scanning codes. Some models use it to send event alerts, such as impact or parking notifications, straight to your phone. It also supports wireless remotes, allowing you to save clips or take snapshots with a single button press. Once paired, your phone will reconnect automatically each time you start the car, so the app is ready for live view or file transfer.

Unlike Wi-Fi, which handles large video downloads and firmware updates, Bluetooth focuses on quick commands and notifications. Most modern dashcams use both: Bluetooth for control and Wi-Fi for data. Keeping Bluetooth enabled in your dashcam app ensures smooth automatic connection and effortless operation every time you drive.
