Here are the key features you should consider:
- Front camera: resolution - crystal clear TRUE 4K video quality from the latest Sony Starvis 2 sensor (8.4MP), High Dynamic Range, 146° Wide Viewing Angle, Manual Lock/Save Video Button
- Rear camera: resolution – Full HD from the Sony Starvis sensor (2.1MP) High Dynamic Range, 131° wide viewing angle for increased zoom.
- Shape: Cylindrical, low-profile and discreet design (11.8cm wide x 3.6cm high x 4.7cm deep) with no screen.
- Storage capacity: Huge! Up to 512GB, which equates to at least 30 hours of footage before automatic loop recording begins (on “highest” bitrate setting).
- Tagged recordings: All recordings tagged with your GPS location, time and speed which can be visualized on Blackvues App’s map plus also Blackvue Web Viewer (PC/Mac).
- Protected recordings: G-sensor detection automatically locks and protects event files (e.g. impact, spinning, sudden acceleration and deceleration) from overwriting. The sensitivity is fully customisable.

- Motion Detection Parking Surveillance – the camera keeps recording when you are away from your vehicle, option to adjust sensitivity and settings to tailor to your parking environment and your needs (hardwire installation required).
- 4G LTE CLOUD Connectivity – This revolutionary feature allows users to remotely access the dashcam anywhere via the use of a SIM card (live view, access settings etc). Blackvue LTE module sold separately, SIM card to be provided by customer.
- AND its small - don’t be deceived by pictures, its only 11.8cm wide x 3.6cm high x 4.7cm deep. Being a tubular shape and jet black, the dashcam also blends into the majority of interiors seamlessly.
- Power: 3 options – via cigarette lighter, included hardwire kit, or a parking recording battery pack.
- Warranty: 2-year manufacturer warranty
Optional Accessories
- Battery Packs for extended long durations of parking recording (we’d strongly recommend this as part of your setup, feel free to contact us for more advice).
- Memory Cards, we'd recommend the largest card that fits your budget, running 2 cameras and one that is 4K we'd recommend 128GB or larger, our top pick is either a 25GB microSD (storing approx. 10 hours of footage) or 512GB microSD (storing approx. 20 hours of footage), you can select our recommended brands from the drop down above.
Important LTE, Mobile Data and Cloud Notes
- The Blackvue DR970X-2CH Plus LTE can be used even without the Cloud. What this means is that even if you do not have a SIM card at the moment, you can still use this camera to record driving footage - it just won't be available for remote access. In other words, video recording does not require Cloud connectivity nor mobile data.
- To utilize this LTE dash cam to full capacity, you will need to supply your own 'nano' SIM card in order to enable the Cloud features. Our testing shows that it is compatible with all the major New Zealand LTE operators including Spark (Skinny), ONE and 2degrees (testing was carried out in the Auckland Region).
- BlackVue offers different Cloud Plans for different needs.
- Please note that not all recordings created by your DR970X-2CH Plus LTE dash cam are automatically sent up to the Cloud. Not only is it typically unnecessary (for most drivers) to have a Cloud backup of literally every second of normal driving or parking mode videos, but uploading each and every recording to the Cloud via LTE would simply consume too much data to be feasible. For example, a 2-hour drive could easily generate 20 GB+ of video files on the memory card, so you can see how trying to send this much data to the Cloud would quickly burn up heaps of data allocation. Instead, BlackVue has solved this problem by automatically uploading "important" files tagged by the dash cam impact sensors as "Events" both during driving and parking. The sensitivity of the sensors and upload settings can be adjusted.
- If remote access to your dash cam isn't a priority for you, you may consider other non-LTE options such as the DR770X or the DR970X Plus. These models are generally more affordable and compact in size and, if the need for the Cloud functionality arises later, the BlackVue LTE Modem can be added as an optional extra.
Installation
The DR970X-2CH LTE Plus can either be hardwired to the vehicles fuse panel, plugged directly into a cigarette lighter socket, or connected to a BlackVue parking recording battery for maximum parking recording coverage.
Simple installation: Just plug the dashcam into the cigarette lighter socket of your vehicle.
Hardwired installation: To enable parking protection mode and LTE when engine is off, use the hardwiring cable to power the dashcam.
The installation process for the DR970X Plus LTE is identical to the other BlackVue X Series dash cams. Our mobile dash cam installation service is available in the Auckland region, please call us to enquire or fill in our enquiry form (found at the end of the installation page).
