LTE Technology (4G)

Posted by David - DriverCam

Listen to our technical specialist David here or read below Your browser does not support the audio player. One question we get asked a lot is, "What does 4G LTE actually do?" Think of it as giving your dashcam its own internet connection. By using a Nano-SIM card and a mobile data plan, your dashcam can stay connected wherever there's mobile coverage. That means you can check live footage, receive alerts if your vehicle is bumped while parked, see its location, and access recorded videos through the manufacturer's app... even when you're nowhere near your vehicle. Unlike Wi-Fi, which only...

Infrared LEDs (IR Dashcams)

Posted by David - DriverCam

IR-LEDs (Infrared LEDs) are small infrared lights fitted to some dashcams to improve recording in very dark conditions. They are most commonly found on interior-facing cameras, where they illuminate the cabin with invisible infrared light that the camera can detect, allowing it to capture clear footage even when there is little or no visible light. IR-LEDs are especially useful for recording inside the vehicle at night without distracting the driver or passengers.

Image Sensor

Posted by David - DriverCam

The image sensor is the part of a dashcam that captures light and converts it into the video you see. It is one of the most important components affecting image quality, particularly in low-light conditions. Different sensors vary in size, resolution, light sensitivity, and dynamic range, all of which influence how much detail the dashcam can capture. High-quality image sensors produce clearer, sharper footage with better colour accuracy and improved performance during both day and night driving.

HDR (High Dynamic Range)

Posted by David - DriverCam

HDR, or High Dynamic Range, is a video enhancement feature that allows your dashcam to capture balanced, detailed footage in any lighting condition. It works by combining multiple exposures of the same frame — some brighter, some darker — into one perfectly balanced image. This process prevents overexposed highlights and dark, shadowed areas, ensuring every part of the scene is clearly visible. With HDR, your dashcam adapts seamlessly to changing light — from bright sunlight and tunnels to night driving and glare from headlights. Road signs, number plates, and surroundings stay sharp and easy to see, even in tricky conditions....

G-Sensor

Posted by David - DriverCam

A G-sensor, or gravity sensor, is a built-in motion detector that helps your dashcam automatically protect important footage when sudden movement or impact occurs. It constantly monitors your vehicle’s motion in three directions—forward and backward, side to side, and up and down—and detects any sharp changes, such as during a collision or hard braking. When this happens, the dashcam instantly locks and saves the current video so it can’t be overwritten. Even when your car is parked, the G-sensor remains active if parking mode is enabled, recording and preserving clips of any impact or tampering. This feature ensures crucial evidence...
